rwandafricanartmuseum.org is dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of our community through education and engagement. Our mission is to inspire curiosity and foster a deeper appreciation for the diversity of human culture.
Our extensive collections include a wide range of artifacts and artwork from various cultures and time periods. From ancient artifacts to contemporary art, our collections provide a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of our world.
The main hall with the permanent exhibition is a large room that let the visitor see and feel the whole or details of particular piece of art.
This “Zen Garden” is the main focus down from the museum café. Visitors may feel and understand the obituary message conveyed in the display
What we insisted in commissioning the build was : To keep an open space, to build a happy marriage between stones and wood. To let a maximum day light in and use exclusively Rwandan material suppliers, such as: bamboos, local hard wood, line stone and river papyrus.

The ramp above the dry garden is finished with river papyrus. The structure design is made to let the visit experience a display of artworks, on terracotta floor, under bamboos ceiling , supported by hand cut stones; all made of the same pallet of colors. The papyrus carpets cooked in bright hot sun rays, exhale beautiful sea scents that give a peaceful perception of the other word.
Most of the artworks exhibited in this museum are from traditional “Masks’ houses ” from all over Africa. We tried to reproduce the same idea of sacred masks guardianship.
The museum is then built around this rich display of Inter-African arts works that mostly illustrate the role of women in the traditional rituals and spiritual belief
